Frequently Asked Questions
“Are your fitters insured?”
Yes. All of our fitters as well as all of our surveyors are fully insured whilst working in your home.
“How long is the guarantee?”
We offer a comprehensive 10 year guarantee against material and workmanship defect which is insurance underwritten.
“Will the installation cause condensation?”
No. As part of the installation we install ventilation gaps above the insulation. The insulation barrier is then closed preventing condensation. With a complete roof replacement, since the construction is of timber, there is no problem regarding condensation.
“Will the shape of my conservatory roof change?”
As stated above, very little about the shape will change unless you are having a roof replacement. We always carefully follow the contours of your existing conservatory roof when installing a thermal conservatory ceiling.
“Will we lose any light once the ceiling is fitted?”
Covering a clear roof will of course reduce the amount of light entering the room but since the walls are virtually all glass, there will still be more than ample light. More importantly, the unpleasant glare factor will be eradicated. With a polycarbonate roof, the difference will be even less noticeable and in the evenings it will actually be lighter once painted white.
How long will it take to install?”
Most ceiling installations are completed within one day and most roof replacements are completed in three days but some very large conservatories may take longer. Our surveyor will advise you of the actual time requirement prior to you placing your order.
“Is this a messy job. Will you disrupt my house?”
We have skilled teams of fitters and plasterers who will completely sheet and protect the work area. Then they will seal the work area from the rest of your home. At completion, they will leave your conservatory clean and tidy and remove all waste materials.
“Do I need planning permission?”
If the exterior of the conservatory is not being changed planning permission is not required, but there will be a requirement for at least a building control certificate if you are having a complete roof replacement. Rundle & Dorey will naturally take care of all of the paperwork for you
“Will it change the look from outside of the conservatory?”
If you are having a thermal ceiling installed then no. We don’t need to do anything to the exterior structure and the existing glass or polycarbonate conservatory roof will remain in place but if you have elected to have a new tiled conservatory roof then of course there will be a dramatic change to the outward appearance of your conservatory
“Will we lose any headroom in the conservatory?”
Again, virtually none. We carefully follow the contours of your existing conservatory roof.
“Will there be any changes to the exterior of my conservatory?“
Virtually none. We carefully follow the contours of your existing conservatory roof.
“Is it true that you charge 5% VAT on thermal conservatory ceiling installations instead of the usual 20%?”
Yes. As a recognised installer of a government approved energy saving thermal system we are allowed to apply the reduced rate of 5% VAT. However, the government insists that the full rate of VAT is applied to replacement conservatory roofs – even though they are insulated to the same high standard.
“Is it a thermal conservatory ceiling terribly expensive?”
No. In fact it will usually cost a whole lot less than a set of conservatory roof blinds whilst being many many times more efficient.
